Health, Safety and Environment

Mermaid Drilling Limited in its commitment towards providing a workplace that is both safe and healthy for personnel whilst minimizing the footprint on the environment, has developed and implemented the Health, Safety & Environmental Management System (HSEMS).

The HSEMS and the policies and procedures contained therein are designed to provide sufficient guidelines for personnel to perform their functions in a safe and environmentally friendly way. The HSEMS, provides suitable tools that when used as per their design, will allow hazards to be identified for any task that is to be performed and these associated hazards managed accordingly.

The HSEMS is built around the Mermaid Drilling Limited Vision to be the DRILLING CONTRACTOR OF CHOICE through the eyes of the Client, Shareholders, Employees, Service Partners and General Public. Such a drive shall be achieved through the application of the HSEMS in conjunction with the Core Value - RESPECT:

Policies and procedures alone will not create and maintain an incident free workplace; this can only be done through people actively caring for the health and safety of each other whilst also respecting the need to minimize our footprints on the environment through using the HSEMS. All personnel have an obligation to interrupt both themselves and co-workers in order to maintain an incident free work place.

We are all responsible for achieving and maintaining an incident free workplace and must therefore hold ourselves and each other accountable for our actions or lack of.

As part of the commitment towards maintaining an incident free work place, Mermaid Drilling Limited recognize the need for suitable training and also the need for personnel to adopt mentoring roles and relationships in order to support each other and reach our potential.

The HSEMS is an active system in the sense that continuous improvement is not only anticipated but expected. To this extent it is the responsibility of all personnel to become part of the Continuous Improvement Process and challenge the way in which we perform our tasks in search of improved methods of meeting our objectives in a more healthy, safe and environmentally acceptable way.
